Born From Above

Today we come to Jesus’ teaching on the topic of the new birth, or what we often refer to today as being “born again.” Born again is not a subset within a tradition of Christianity. Being born again is simply what it means to be a Christian. In other words, if you are a Christian, you have been born again. And if you have not been born again, you are not a Christian.

That term “born again” has fallen on hard times in recent years. Many of us think of it and we associate it as a mantra for conservatism and perhaps hypocritical fundamentalism, but for the Christian, this is synonymous with our salvation, as the Holy Spirit brings new birth into our souls so that we can not only know a lot about Jesus, but actually love Him.
