The Transformation that Leads to Proclamation

We’ve been studying verse by verse through John’s Gospel, and for the last month, we’ve been in John 4, looking at Jesus’ longest recorded conversation, and it is with a woman. That may not be a big deal to us today, but if you were reading John’s Gospel in the first century, your jaw would hit the floor to see a religious leader interacting with a woman, because Jews didn’t think women should be discipled. And this wasn’t just any woman: She was a scandalous, outcast, Samaritan woman. But Jesus is not concerned with appearances; He is concerned with the heart. And in their conversation, this woman’s heart has been changed so that she is now one of the very few people on the face of the earth who really understand who Jesus is.
