Children of God

The first 18 verses of John’s Gospel are, in a sense, God’s birth announcement of the Lord Jesus. We’ll see that with great precision a week from today on Christmas Eve look at verse 14: “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” But the entirety of this passage is God’s birth announcement that His Son had come into the world.

Now, there’s a different tone in this birth announcement than most. John tells us that this child came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. This child for whom all heaven rejoiced would be rejected and despised by this world.

So why come into the world in the first place?
