God's Purpose for the World, Man's Purpose in the World

Today we’re going to be looking at two passages. The first passage we will look at is from John 8, as Jesus is going to say these fascinating words that we began looking at last week, where He says “Before Abraham was, I am.” As grammatically peculiar as that sentence is, it is even more theologically insightful, as this man with true flesh and bones, born at Bethlehem, is saying “I am the unoriginated One, I have no beginning and no end.” And then from this discussion of the One who has no origin we will go to Genesis 1, where we are going to see the origin of the world.

And what we are going to see as we put this together is that this whole world, the creation of it, finds its meaning, its reality, its purpose, in the One who pre-existed the world, and yet would one day step into the world that He Created.
